'Chasing Stars' Chapter Four Snippet

in , , by Lisa Christensen, January 23, 2022

On Friday, we talked about how people need to read the Lucifer FanFiction called Chasing Stars by CaliWonders. If you missed that post, you could read that here. I am so happy to say that today is Sunday, which means tomorrow is a brand new chapter of this story.  Really that's the only thing that makes me excited for Monday!

If you are as excited to see what this next chapter will bring, I have below a snippet that she has released for her fans! Take a read of the snippet below.

Reading this really makes me want that chapter now. What are your thoughts about this snippet? Are you guys enjoying this story?

And remember, you can follow CaliWonders on Twitter and subscribe to her on AO3 to make sure you stay up to date on all of her stories.

Suppose you are like me. Sometimes you think of your ship or characters from your favorite show in a different situation or even an alternative universe.  To go into that other world or even expand into the world, I end up going to FanFiction or, as most people say, FanFic.  And before you say or think anything wrong about FanFiction, remember that 50 Shades of Gray was originally fan fiction to Twilight

For most fandoms of your favorite movie, tv-show, book, comic, etc., a fanfic writer puts a different spin on these characters.  Or like I like to say, other like and breath that you might have never thought of them being in.  And when a show is canceled or even ends, this helps relive why you love the characters and makes it feel like you are still getting a new episode every week.  These writers put a lot of work into their stories for FREE!  I can not imagine doing all of the work and not getting a light shined on them for doing something extraordinary for the fandom.

That is why this part of the Around The Coffee Table section will be talking about all of the beautiful fanfics there are to read and shine a spotlight on all of those excellent writers.

This first story is written by the fantastic writer CaliWonders. You can follow her on Twitter and see all her works on AO3. The story that I am recommending is Chasing Stars. This fanfic is part of the Lucifer fandom. As some of you may know, Lucifer came to an end last year. Those of us who came to the fandom late might not feel like we had a lot of time to enjoy it. Reading these stories do help.

Now Chasing Star is an alternate universe where Chloe and Lucifer were together for a year.  But in typical Lucifer style, he ended the relationship with no explanation when it got too real for him.  He has been seeing Chloe’s acting career take off.  Every day, he also wants her back in his life, back in his arms, and even back in his bed.  But the rumor that is going around is that she is dating a world-renowned DJ, and the relationship is getting very serious.  So if Lucifer does even try and get Chloe back, will she even want that?

I was hooked on this story in the very first chapter.  The characters are very well written and still have some of the qualities from the show, which helped me get into the story quickly.  When I read the following snippet, I knew this was a story I would wait to read the next chapter every week.

Suki takes hold of his wrist. “Oh my god, you’re bleeding!”

She sounds panicked, and he looks at his hand. He is bleeding.

“I’ll go grab the first aid kit.” He faintly hears the barmaid say.

Suki lets go of his arm. His eyes are fixed on his hand. He’s bleeding. He never bleeds. Never... unless—

It’s impossible. It can’t be. Not tonight. Not here.

He turns around and strides toward the dancefloor while scanning the room. He probably looks like a bloody lunatic with his eyes searching avidly every inch of his club, but he doesn’t care.

Suddenly he stops dead in his tracks, and his breath catches in his throat.

There, in a corner booth, he sees her. She’s sporting the sweetest smile he’s ever seen, and her fingers are idly tracing the stem of her wine glass.

The way it was written, I could imagine seeing this on my TV screen… it also showed how well she understood the characters she was writing.

Right now, there are three chapters up to this story. It does not say how many chapters this story will have, but it is updated every Monday. What is nice about that is you can take in the story slowly and enjoy it as your would a real TV show.

Please read this story and let us know what you think in the comments.  We know you won’t be disappointed in taking a few moments to read it.

Kindle Paperwhite (2018)

in , , , by Lisa Christensen, January 10, 2022

Last year I started to take more time for myself. With me doing that, I went back into reading. I love reading paper books, but I could never get the lighting right when I wanted to read in bed. Along with the light, I found it hard to get comfy while holding the book. That is when I started debating about leaping into the e-book Kindle world.

Many people think if you have an iPad, why not use that to read? Well, for one, when I see notifications appear, my thing is I have to check it out or take care of it. So I start looking into other things and go into a rabbit hole when I do that. I have heard about kindles, but I never really thought about one. But the idea of not getting notifications and just being swept up into the book sounded great.

So I started watching and reading people's reviews on the Kindle to try and decide which one to get. So I had my choices of Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Oasis. I took off the Kindle right away due to its build from what I saw and read from the reviews. The Kindle did not have a flush front like the higher models, and the screen was not as good as the Paperwhite and Oasis. I liked the specs that the Kindle Paperwhite and Oasis had. The price of the Oasis is at is a little bit too insane. The warm light and how the feel/look of it looked great. But I couldn't justify spending that money on a few good features the Paperwhite didn't have.

The Kindle Paperwhite had everything I was looking for in an e-reader. And to be honest, the look and feel of it isn't so bad. It easily fits in my purse when I want to take it with me and is like the size of a small book. The other benefit is the light it gives out. However, the light isn't bad at all. When you are reading on Paperwhite, it looks like an actual page of a book, so you don't have to worry about blue light before going to bed.

Now I know you can get an iPad mini, but the price difference between the two is a good chunk of money. Also, the screen the iPad has would be too much for me before I go to bed. Since I am trying to close my mind and get ready for sleep, I don't need the extra light. Plus, even with the mini, the size is just too big. But, on the other hand, the iPad would have one benefit: the different ways people could get a book.

For me getting the digital version from Amazon is no problem. I can get more money off by having my shipments come in slow to me. And every month, you can get a brand new book for free. And the e-books they have are priced very well, so that means you can get more books to read for less money.

Now my version of the Paperwhite is the 2018 version. They just released a new version of the Paperwhite with two different levels. So if you are thinking of getting the Kindle Paperwhite, I highly recommend doing your research on which one you would like.

Do you read on a tablet or e-reader?? Which one do you like? Let us know in the comments.

Casual Coffee Style Book Club

in , by Lisa Christensen, January 07, 2022

This past year (2021) I got into reading. It was halfway through the year and I wanted to escape to another place. I picked up a James Patterson book and away I went.

The mystery of everything helped me leave my world into something new. From then on I picked out different books and I invested in my book game. I got myself a kindle.

I will talk more about the kindle and why I chose that in a future post. But I was wondering of starting a book club. I really think it would be fun to talk to people who are reading the same book and make some new friends.

I haven’t decided on the book for January, but if you are interested let me know (casualcoffeestyle@gmail.com).
